Mexico is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, where almost all natural environments of our planet are present: from snow-capped mountain peaks to the depths of its seas full of life, from arid deserts to lush tropical forests. Here, the complex mosaic of ecosystems brings together fiery volcanoes and peaceful lagoons, dark caves and paradisiacal beaches, vast swamps and colorful tropical reefs, majestic waterfalls and enigmatic cenotes, solitary dunes and fertile valleys, two ocean coasts and remote islands. Over time, this overwhelming variety of climates and altitudes, along with other factors, has allowed the evolution of several endemic species of flora and fauna which cannot be found anywhere else on the planet.
This enormous natural wealth is a great privilege, as it is also a great responsibility. It imposes the duty of preserving and caring for it to all humanity so that it continues to be one of the most beautiful parts of our world.
This book was created to show the natural wonders of Mexico, some – very famous and visited by many people every day, others – barely known, like the secret jewels of nature scattered around in different corners of the country. Each place has a charm of its own and a story to tell.
